MY OPINION:in my opinion the tow major reasons or causes of these riots is police attitude towards the members of the public and also the lazy attitude of the British youths, the way the police handle the situation of mark dugan was very unlawful and unconstitutional, because their was no any substantial evidence to show that mark dugan wanted to shoot the police.on the other hand the British youth are very lazy, here in the UK compare to other countries especially African countries the government are really trying to make life easy to the citizens but some of the youth are not willing to help themselves, government is paying the citizens a considerable amount of money even if you are not working, some of the youth want to live a better and luxurious life but they don not want to work for it and it is a well known fact that success comes with hard work.although some of the rioters are rich,in my opinion the rich people that participated in the riots were just influence by their fellow youths.

QUALITY OF LIFE

It has been a great experience so far, everything is going beyond my expectations,i love everything about my studies here in the UK,the relationship between me and my tutors and class mates as well is really very interesting and i have leaned a lot especially in English language and study skills,However honestly my life after school is really boring,my relationship with the people around me with the exception of my Nigerian colleagues is really not good due to both cultural and religious reasons,as a result i am always missing my family. Moreover due to the fact that i doesn't know how to cook i am finding hard to coup with the British food.

All in all i can say i am very happy to be here because what matters most is the education and i am finding it very interesting,as for the Borden and the change in food i know is just a matter of time,i will surely get use to it as time passes

the word ''POSH''

According to the free dictionary.com posh means'' a classy, elegant, fashionable, exclusive or upper class or gentle.

                                   WORD HISTORY AND ORIGIN

A well known theory or history of the word stated that the word is originated from the initials ''port out starboard home".the ships that use to move passengers in the mid 19centuary between England and India has a first class seat which is more cooler, camp and luxurious as a result it is more expensive.in other to distinguish the first class tickets and the other ordinary tickets  an acronym POSH is stamped on the first class tickets.that's how the word come into existence and this could be seen in the way the word is been use.although their is no concrete evidence to support the theory.

Another word POSH  was used by the British in the 19th century and early 20th century which means a small amount of money and the theory explained that the word is borrowed from the word pash ''half'' according to the on line dictionary the roman origin is more likely to be the true source of the word than the popular port out starboard home. Another theory from UK phrases.org they explained that their is no any reliable evidence in all the theories and histories oh the word.

THE MEDIA INFLUENCE

HEADLINES;''2 dead in Virginia Tech shooting
Two people one of them a police officer were shot dead today at Virginia tech university, the scene of the worst mass shooting in US history in 2007'' the sun .The headlines appeared to be  very informal and critical. The use of "2" in the headline appears to be very informal and also the headline is critical when the writer says : "scene Of the worst mass shooting in US history in 2007".this is in sharp contrast to how the headline was written by raf sanches in the telegraph, the headlines read"Two people killed in Virginia shooting tech. live coverage as police  hunt a shooter who opened fire at Virginia Tech, the site of America's worst campus massacre "the writer wrote "two"instead of 2 and these has make the headline to look more formal.also he made an appropriate euphemism when flashing back to the memories of 2007 massacre by saying "the site of Americas worst massacre"saying worst in history appears to be harsh.

The Telegraph is more informative  than The Sun,details and live coverage of the incident was outlined and explained bit by bit in the telegraph ,and also they gave a lot of information about the 2007 gun man.in the telegraph it was mentioned that the 2007 gun man Seung-Hui Cho by name killed 32 students and staff and his pictures were posted their. on the other hand, in The Sun it was very brief the news is half the length of the one  that is in The Telegraph.the news writer did not give much information about the gun shot and also the flash back of the 2007 massacre was very short and unclear.Equally important the single picture that was posted in the sun is not relevant to the news unlike the different  pictures in the Telegraph.

Considering the length of the news in the sun newspaper direct quotes are many, the direct quotes used in the sun are almost as much as the one used in the telegraph.another point is in the last paragraph in the sun the writer appears to be biased and critical when he says "The university were criticised for their slow response to the incident and were today ensuring students were constantly updated on the gun alert"what the writer says may be true but he appears to be biased,in the telegraph the writer explained what happened in 2007 but he appears to be neutral and left it to the readers to share the views.

FEEDBACK

Due to the time factor was very brief during my presentation, as a result i didn’t go deep into explanation, but still am able to know some of my weaknesses, am finding it difficult to face the class and express myself, is like am anxious, and I run out of word due to the anxiety. After the lecture i was able to know other areas that i need to improve and my strength as well will improve my eye contact and my body language, during my presentation the eye contact and the body language was not good. Equally important i did not personalise the topic. The presentation was not subjective made some explanations which are not on the slide and i was applauded for that

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF BEEN AN EU MEMBER

                                                       THE EUROPEAN UNION
                                                    EU headquarters

the union which was created in the year 1957,was initially called European economic community (EEC).after the second world war between (1939 -1945),Germany,France,Holland,Belgium,Luxembourg and Italy decided to come together to formed the union in other to bring and end to the ongoing conflict.since then many countries joined  the then called EEC,in 19973 Britain Denmark, republic of Ireland joined the union.in 1992 the name of the union was changed from European economic community to European union, the union now has 25 member state with population of about 450million.before the change of the name, the union was based on economic concerns an instituted harmonization programmes.but now the union is not only base on economic matters but also the union is involved in the decision and policy making of the member state.the introduction of common currency among member state with the exception of UK is a good example of how the union has become more integrated over the years.

the union consist of the European council, the European parliament and the European court of justice and council of ministers ,these council are responsible for running the affairs of the union, with representatives from all the member states.the member states include republic of Ireland,Britain,Denmark,Luxembourg,Germany, the Netherlands,Belgium,France,Italy,Greece,Spain,Portugal,Sweden,Finland,Austria,Estonia,Latvia,Lithuania, polan,Czech republic,Slovakia, hungry Slovenia,Malta and Cyprus all the member states drives allot of benefit from the union, either politically or economically.for instance British poorer regions have benefited allot from the regional funds.however being part of the union can also be of disadvantage to the member states.below are some of the disadvantage and advantage of being an EU MEMBER

EU leaders in a meeting

one of the major advantage of EU membership according to blog spot.com is the single market system, the single market system enables companies to trade in international market freely among the member states, the use of same currency among the member states with the exception of UK also makes movement of people, goods and services more easy.the use of similar currency makes it easy for traders to predict markets.according to BBC news it was estimated that a traveller visiting all the twelve then EC countries will lose about 40% value of his money on exchange and transfer charges, but with the introduction of the same currency for all the member states that loss does not longer exist.in my opinion another advantage is the union promotes peace and good mutual understanding among member states, the member states are working together to help each other developed.they help each in policy and decision making.however the EU membership also has some disadvantages.

on the other hand the EU membership also has some disadvantages according to notaboohereblogspot.com one of the major disadvantage is loss of national sovereignty.that is whenever a new country join the EU it most accept all the terms and condition of the EU even if condition is against the rules and regulation of the country.and also without considering the interest of the people of that particular country.another disadvantage of the union is smaller countries have less influence in policy and decision making of the union.the bigger countries always have the final say.especially on security issues

in conclusion the EU has more advantages than disadvantages to it member states.in my opinion the union has brought peace and prosperity among it member states, and they have unite their people ,they are also helping each other in solving problems either politically economically, socially or educationally.

ACADEMIC STUDY IN THE UK

according to European   education and ongoing reforms ,in UK education is compulsory for children between the ages of 4 and 16In Britain, and during this years of compulsory education  and the first 2 years of post compulsory education,it  is  free of charge, however some parents send their wards to private owned school which requires fees.

the system of education is divided into primary secondary and tertiary sectors ,although their is also a pre- primary education for children between the ages of  3months to 3years.however the primary education is regarded as the first key stage, the primary education which usually start  between the ages of 4 and 5 usually last for six years which means children finished at the age of 10 and 11 respectively.the teachers are always working closely to the children in other to know their progress and also to know their weakness,in Nigeria as well the primary education is between the age of four and five which also last for years, which is run and controlled by the state primary education board of the respective states.in Nigeria the government owned schools are very poor in terms of facilities, qualified teachers good learning environment and lots more , while in UK all the schools are good\,is only our private schools that can match the standard of UK primary  schools, and is very expensive which makes it  very difficult for the lower class of the society to afford below are pictures of two different primary schools n Nigeria and UK, a Private school in Nigeria and a government owned in school in UK

American international school Abuja                                                     millifields primary school
studying the pictures very well will show a lot of similarities from the two schools.

after finishing the primary school the next stage is junior secondary school, the junior secondary school is for children between the ages of 10 and 11 and it last for 3years,the senior secondary school is the next stage after the junior secondary school which is for children between the ages of 13 and 14.the senior secondary school last for a period of 2years which marks the end of compulsory education.from that stage education is optional in UK.some may decide to further their education while some don't.the system of secondary school in Nigeria and K is different,in Nigeria the senior secondary school last for three years as well, unlike UK which is two years, however in Nigeria a successful completion of senior secondary school and passing the senior secondary school certificate examination (SSCE) and joint admission and matriculation examination which is certified by the federal ministry of education will qualify a student to be enrolled in any university provided he  pass the exams that are related to his course of studies ,a student who did not pass the exams will be admitted as a remedial student in the university or other colleges of education for a diploma coursebelow are pictures of two government owned secondary schools in Nigeria and UK respectively

while in uk for those who are interested in furthering their education may have to fulfill some certain conditions that is required by their school of choice.these schools are known as colleges high schools and vocational training centers, they provide wide range of courses which student chose depending on the course they want to study in the university the major difference here is that high school education is mandatory for anyone who is interested in joining a university  in UK. while in Nigeria if you pass your SSCE you are qualified to join any university.a successful completion of the two years programme and passing the exams which is certified by
the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual). .will qualify a student to admission into any of the university in the UK.two of the common exams taken are
the General Certificate of Education Advanced level examination( GCE A levels ) and
the Advanced Subsidiary examination (GCE AS-level

)the undergraduate study in UK attract tuition fees which varies from different according to act 2004,but it should not go beyond £3000 ,any increase is subjected to the  level of the inflation.the maximum tuition fee for the past academic year was £3190.in Nigerian the tuition fee for the government universities is not much ,According to Comrade Adewusi president of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU)the tuition fee is N25000 to N30000 which is less than £150.however private universities are very expensive for instance Baze university a private university in Abuja, the tuition fee for the academic year 2011/2012 is 1.5million naira which is about £6000.

the undergraduate degree in UK is commonly 3years but some courses are more than that.after successfully finishing the required years student are awarded with different qualifications depending on the course and the awarding body, ranging from, bachelor’s degrees, bachelor’s degrees with
honours, which is a;so similar to that of Nigeria.in Nigeria undergraduate is commonly four and five years depending on the type of course you are studying, for science courses is mostly five years while art courses and some social science courses are four years with the exception of law,law is also five years.below are three different universities in UK and Nigeria

glamogan univesrity                             American university of Nigeria         university of Abuja

In conclusion base on my own experience in education,UK educational system is one of the best in the world,if not the best.i have studied in Nigeria and United Arab Emirate as well, but honestly with no disrespect to their system of education, the UK system is far more better than the aforementioned, the learning facilities, the teachers the environment and lots more are exceptional, you cannot get better than that.in Nigeria the government owned schools are very poor in terms of facilities and qualified teachers .poor learning environment and lots more.their is a huge difference between the government owned schools and the private owned schools in Nigeria whereas in UK you cannot differentiate in term of facilities.and also their is alot of competition for places in the universities , the universities in Nigeria cannot accommodate all the applicants as a result many students finished secondary schools but have to spend a lot of years before furthering their education while others lost hope and forget about it.
higher education diplomas and  certificates , foundation degrees, bachelor’s, and higher postgraduates degrees
